How do you keep a rose bouquet fresh?

To keep a rose bouquet fresh, place it in a clean vase with fresh room-temperature water, add flower food, trim the stems at an angle and remove any leaves below the waterline. Change the water every one to two days and keep the bouquet away from direct sunlight, heat vents and ripening fruit.

A luxury rose bouquet can remain beautiful for longer when it receives the right care from the moment it arrives.

Use a clean vase

Before placing your roses in water, wash the vase thoroughly with warm water and soap. Bacteria inside an unclean vase can block the stems and prevent the roses from absorbing water properly.

Fill the vase with fresh room-temperature water and add the flower food provided with your bouquet.

Trim the rose stems

Use clean floral shears or a sharp knife to remove approximately one to two centimetres from the bottom of each stem. Cut the stems diagonally to create a larger surface area for water absorption.

Re-trim the stems every two or three days to help the roses continue drinking.

Remove leaves below the waterline

Any leaves sitting beneath the water can decay and encourage bacterial growth. Remove the lower leaves while keeping the healthy foliage above the vase for a natural, full appearance.

Change the water regularly

Replace the vase water every one to two days. Rinse the vase, add fresh water and remove any fallen petals or leaves.

If your rose arrangement is designed in floral foam, add a small amount of fresh water every day so the foam remains moist.

Choose the right location

Display your roses in a cool indoor area away from:

  • Direct sunlight
  • Radiators and heating vents
  • Air-conditioning vents
  • Drafty windows
  • Ripening fruit

Fruit can release ethylene gas, which may cause flowers to age more quickly.

Rose bouquet care in Toronto homes

During Toronto winters, avoid placing roses close to heating vents or radiators. During warmer GTA summers, keep the bouquet in a cooler room and away from strong afternoon sunlight.

With consistent care, your Rose Breeze bouquet can remain an elegant part of your space for as long as possible.
